MMH Makes National Newspaper Association Top Political Ads
October 29, 2003
McCarthy Marcus Hennings was honored by the National Newspaper Association for creating three of the “50 Best Political Newspaper Ads.”
An MMH ad for Verizon featured an extreme close-up of a duck’s face and the headline: “There’s Nothing Funny About Big Bills.” The ad asked New Jersey regulators to allow Verizon to compete in their state because “When it comes to long distance phone bills, people in New Jersey have bigger bills than people in New York and Pennsylvania.”
An MMH ad for Lightning Source, an eBooks and print-on-demand publisher, showed a parachutist descending in a lightning storm to deliver a book. The headline read “Some People Will Do Almost Anything to Deliver a Book.” The ad was produced in recognition of Lightning Source printing its one-millionth book.
And MMH was honored for an ad they created for the Pew Charitable Trusts for their “Americans Discuss Social Security” campaign. The headline read “Memo To:” and the artwork featured line drawings of the three network news anchors: Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings, and Dan Rather. “Americans are not happy with the quality and amount of news coverage on an issue of vital importance to them: Social Security,” read the ad.
According to a release by the Newspaper Association, the submissions were judged by a panel of experts and were rated solely on their creativity and their effectiveness.
