Right to Work initiatives were famous for failing. But despite being targeted heavily by labor and being outspent 3:1, MMH helped Oklahoma become the first right to work state in 15 years.
Nervous labor unions fighting to protect their “home turf” circled the wagons. More than 70% of the money spent by the unions came from outside Oklahoma.
With MMH’s help the initiative won the single-issue election - by eight points.
Congressman J.C. Watts is featured in the TV spot “Historic,” which includes footage of President Reagan talking about the freedoms and the “right to work.”
In the spot “Freedom of Speech,” a cross-section of citizens comment on Oklahomans having the freedom to choose whether or not to join unions.
