In Virginia, hospitals were only being reimbursed for 71 percent of the costs of Medicaid patients' care. The costs were being passed off on insured customers - as a "hidden tax" which showed up as higher insurance premiums and higher hospital costs for privately insured patients.
MMH launched a campaign with VHHA urging the state to put additional funds into the state Medicaid program in order to draw down a $250 million federal match.
The Commonwealth did so which brought Virginia's federal tax dollars back into Virginia and helping to lower healthcare costs for all Virginians.
